WOODSWORTH COLLEGE
STUDENT RESIDENCE,
UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO

The Woodsworth College Student Residence is the first university building to be developed on Bloor Street in almost a century.

Standing at the western edge of Toronto’s premiere cultural, institutional and retail district, the residence serves as the northern gateway into the University of Toronto campus. The four-storey podium respects the scale and materials of surrounding university buildings, and wraps around a landscaped courtyard that extends the University’s great tradition of quads and public green spaces.

Below grade, a 220-seat classroom and AV complex is illuminated by a skylight mounted in the courtyard. At street level, floor-to-ceiling windows present a lively, approachable face to Bloor Street on the north. On the south, windows overlooking the courtyard create a nearly seamless transition between students’ indoor and outdoor social space.

Above, clear and fritted glass formally articulate the slender 17-storey tower, while giving residents panoramic views of the city.
