Evangel Hall provides a safe and comfortable home for people rebuilding their lives, and a new model for efficient and amenable supportive housing.
The residence is located on a narrow, deep building site. Floor and unit layouts were carefully considered to balance tenants’ need for privacy with the numbers and types of unit needed to make the project economically feasible. Floor layouts are flexible: they allow bachelor and single bedroom units to be combined if a tenant’s living arrangements change. The ground floor houses a drop-in centre and offices for counseling, medical aid and employment, creating a sense of community for Evangel residents and non-resident clients.
The building is designed to the same standards as aA’s market housing projects, blending in with the surrounding downtown community so that residents, already facing a variety of challenges, are not further stigmatized.
