Beaver Valley, Ontario2009 Completed ● 325 m2residential
Beaver Valley House is located on a rolling field overlooking the Niagara Escarpment, one of Canada’s most significant landforms and a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. The design concept reinterprets the 19th century farmhouse – a strong, simple vernacular architecture characterized by strong, rectangular forms, high peaked roofs, and linked pathways between the main house and the summer kitchen, ice house, and other outbuildings.
a-A reinterpreted these strong geometric forms, streamlined and modernized, in native stone and wood that anchors the building in the landscape. Glazed corridors connect the main programmatic elements of the house, echoing the traditional arrangement between the main house and its outbuildings. Inside, the kitchen, dining and living areas flow effortlessly from one to the next to accommodate the easy, informal entertaining style of the family.
